However, the Governnot of Nevada says he "doesn't believe in it" and says he'll veto the bill.
Based on the number of votes cast for the legislation in the Senate, however, the Senate will not be able to override the veto.
Unless…unless two of those who voted against the measure could be convinced to change his vote.
Well, Nor'Townies, here's your chance to do something about it. Nor'Towner state Senator John Jay Lee was one of those who voted against it. If he could be persuaded to change his vote, the Governor's vote could be overturned.
So, give him a call or an email and tell him to vote to override the Gube's veto of SB 283 and to support equal rights for all.
Legislators tend to listen more to folks from their district, so Nor'Towners calling in should carry some weight.
You know, even Renoids are making fun of his vote:
bill because he was concerned that some couples would engage in what he
called “trial marriages” instead of real marriages. He has apparently
not encountered the trial marriage ritual known as living together. Nor
did he explain what would necessarily be so objectionable about such
trial marriages that it would become the business of the government. In
fact, the bill allows domestic partnerships for both same-gender and
opposite-gender couples. (RN&R)
Hey, Renoids, back off! We'll make fun of our own Senators, thank you very much.
Mr. Lee: Make us take it all back by reversing your vote. So you may lose a campaign contribution from a local bigot or two. Trust me, you won't miss 'em.
