So, George Knapp is reporting that mayoral wannabe William Robinson was subject to an investigation by the FBI for corruption. (KLAS)
Yet, somehow, the investigation back in the 1990′s never surfaced until now. And, we learn charges were never filed.
Well, one reason they may not have been filed was the evidence was insufficient to prove the case. We’ll have to see if Mr. Knapp’s sources really have any evidence, or whether this will simply be one of the nastiest frame jobs in Nevada history.
No doubt “Skip” the undercover FBI operative informant (and still is after 10, 15 years? Getting kinda old, ain’t he, for undercover work?) who is yammering with Knapp will be able to prove the allegations. Which were never filed. Because of “Skip’s” outstanding work, perhaps?
Or will the story turn out to be like that one about the $500.00 from the murder suspect? So well supported it completely disappeared. Even the Review Journal didn’t have the stomach to follow up on that one.
Funny about the timing. You’d think that someone so friendly with the police union and with family in law enforcement would have known about this for a long time, if true, and could have informed the electorate of these allegations long ago, instead of a week or so out from early voting.
In fact, the timing was exactly right to guarantee that IF Mr. Robinson is being set up, he won’t have enough time to get his story out and fix the damage. Of course, IF he did take bribes, then good riddance.
And even if he’s not being set up, you have to wonder about the utterly frigid calculation that went into waiting until this moment to “leak” the story. Truly worthy of a Nixon or a Rove.
Man, somebody must have been doing pretty bad in the polls.
[UPDATE: KLAS is now reporting that "Skip" is apparently a Nor'Townie businessman with all sorts of stories about how he works closely with the FBI.
The FBI has made no comments.
Why didn't the FBI prosecute? Knapp says a former U.S. Attorney "reportedly" said that the FBI corruption team didn't want the target of their first investigation to be an African American.
Uh, "reportedly"? By who? Skippy? Does this story have an corroboration beyond Skippy?
Sounds like maybe the Knappster's out chasing UFOs again.]
