So, just a few short months ago the Mayor of North Las Vegas was assuring us that “we [sic] had done nothing wrong” about the shenanigans used by Nor’Town to fund old cops with money earmarked for new cops.
Maybe the mayor was just working on her Richard Nixon impression–a big hit at Republican fund-raisers I suppose–because just recently the state Attorney General ruled that cities can’t use the “More Cops” money if they cut funding to the police department or have fewer police on the payroll now than in the previous year. (KLAS,RJ)
North Las Vegas did both, and at least one commentator–albeit a member of a police union–claimed that “[t]hey’re going to have to move those officers back into funds where they belong and give the citizens what they were expecting, what they voted for.” Naturally, in his opinion what “we”–meaning I suppose the few thousand members of the public employee unions who are the only people who vote in elections around here–”want” is more cops that “our” bankrupt city can’t afford.
Still all Nor’Townies must be wondering why is it a City Manager can get fired over More Cops, and yet a Mayor who, erroneously, claims that “we [sic] had done nothing wrong” still malingers? Perhaps simply to keep council votes from being unanimous, I suppose.
And what’s with the pic? Well, Dr. Wade “Teeth” Wagner, DDS, accused his foe Richard Cherchio in the Ward 4 race for City Council of violating campaign rules by posting a pic of Cherchio with a cop in campaign literature. I was just wondering what kinds of cops Wagner might pose with. Ones with nice teeth, I’m guessing.
Dr. Teeth is being backed by an unethical self serving bunch of non-residents. But the real SHAME goes to the pathetic lazy Nor Town taxpayers who pay no attention and don’t get off their ass to vote.
Hey Rod……Too bad you don’t know the truth of the situation. It was not the cops that misused your tax money and supplanted funds. But of course lets blame the ones who have to endure working to protect you with less resources and protect the City Council and Department heads that transferred money illegally to pay for parks and libraries.

Oh I know it is still the non participating public that is the main fault. If they were actively involved maybe we would have elected people who were not self serving.
The attacks on Richard and the money wasted on trying to dump him are just wrong! He is part of the solution to our City getting back to proper financial management and ethical standards. We do not need to go back to build, build, build … that has served us so well!
As for the miss use/miss directed More Cops funds, when did that take place and which Council people corrected it …
Many North Las Vegas residents should recognize the current relationship between Mayor Buck and her friends at the Police and Fire Unions for exactly what it is – a “secret combination” to get gain (in the form of unsustainable salaries and benefits) and to maintain a corrupt hold on power. The Mayor received enormous support from the unions for herself and her friends (Mr. Wagner), and in turn, the unions receive unwavering protection from Mayor Buck. This situation may bring down the entire City by causing it to go bankrupt. I support a RECALL of Mayor Buck. She is unfit to lead because of her allegiances to the very unions that the Mayor is supposed to oversee and manage wisely for the benefit of City residents.
And Dazed – you imply that unsustainable salaries and benefits for cops and fireman should come at the expense of community amenities such as parks and libraries. No doubt you are one of the VAST MAJORITY of NLV officers and firefighters who work in NLV and feed at the trough, but you live elsewhere to enjoy the amenities that NLV can no longer afford. Thanks for caring so much about the welfare of the residents and the community. We know why you’re really here.
