Areas to Avoid in Las Vegas

Be particularly aware of your environment when you travel throughout the south, center and north sections of the Strip, the old Downtown area on Fremont, or when you travel down Fremont on Boulder Highway as you exit town, as these are high crime areas. North Las Vegas should also be traveled with caution. If you need a police officer on the Strip or Downtown, the police department maintains a Bicycle Squad which can be readily seen throughout those areas. (AOLTravel emphasis added.)

You’d think they’d warn us Natives about that danger stuff. Though, I suspect we all travel “with caution” around here, anyways.

The North Las Vegas Advisory Board on Parks and Recreation will be holding a special meeting next Thursday, July 29, at 5:45 pm over at City Hall.

The main agenda item is “Discussion and/or action regarding the importance of our parks and the need to
preserve and protect them.” This, I have heard from a source I call “Deep Throat,” means something like “the city’s budget continues to shrink and by damn we gotta cut something–hey let cut more pools and parks and park staff.”

That being the case, it might be worthwhile for civic minded Nor’Townies to make the effort to show up and let the Board know what you think. So they can pass those thoughts up to Council.

North Las Vegas, Nevada – As part of the federal requirements for funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, North Las Vegas is putting together a 5-year consolidated plan in partnership with the Clark County Consortium. City officials are seeking participation from residents in forming the plan by asking them to complete a survey.

The survey asks citizens their opinions on everything from the local economy to their needs for City services and desires for improving or maintaining their quality of life.

Federal funding related to this plan is allocated to the City through the HOME program, which provides prospective homeowners with down-payment assistance, the Emergency Repair Program and Community Development Block Grants, which help pay for capital improvements and social services.

To access the survey online, visit the City’s website at www.cityofnorthlasvegas.com , or submit a request to receive the survey by mail by calling (702) 633-1532.
