It contains a list of proposed layoffs offered up to city council Thursday night as a means to fill up a $33 million shortfall in the city budget. It offers up 273 layoffs (at the bottom of the second column) to achieve the goal of about $36 million [...] Just a few notes on what happened at the Special City Council Meeting Wednesday about various park issues: Park naming: the main proposal was to limit the naming of parks to people dead for at least two years. The idea was to avoid problems like that associated with Floyd Lamb park, which is named after [...] Clark County Commissioners Tom Collins and Chris Guinchigliani have sent letters to Nor’Town City Councilfolk protesting a proposed ordinance designed to regulate the sale of animals in public places. (KTVN) According to the commissioners, the new ordinance will actually conflict with the city’s own spay and neuter laws. The laws require that animals be “fixed” [...] Oooo, not sure I can recommend this month’s meeting unless you own a gas mask. There’s a talk by the Census Bureau, which will probably be all right, though I’d recommend the rep from the Fed Gov be careful cuz the Alliance has also invited a rep from the ultra-libertarian, vigorously anti-government organization called Nevada [...] The North Valley Democrats will hold their monthly meeting on January 19, 2010. The social stuff starts at 6:00 pm and the meeting gets going at 6:30 pm meeting. The meeting will be located at the Centennial library, 6700 North Buffalo, LV, (Near Von’s & Target at 95 & 215). The guest speaker for the [...] News came early today that the Department of Housing and Urban Development will not be awarding funds to southern Nevada communities designed to stabilize neighborhoods hit by a large number of foreclosures. Las Vegas Mayor Goodman went into the requisite fit over the news, and Senator Harry Reid made noises about taking steps to fix [...] One of the oddest canards of the health care debate is how it’s possible that people like their current health plans. What puts the lie to that is the sort of problem faced by the city. Namely that health care plans insist on raising their rates well beyond anything resembling cost of living increases. Indeed, [...] There will be three meetings on Wednesday for the North Las Vegas City Council. All will be at Council Chambers, 2200 Civic Center Drive, North Las Vegas, Nevada. Special Meeting, 4:30 pm, Wednesday, January 6: Council will be discussing funding options for staff health insurance.
